Consignment???

I'm considering joining in the consignment sale coming up in our area. I thought it might be a good way to make some money to put toward buying the twins some clothes. However, I'm not sure I think my time is worth it??? I don't know.

I want to know what you think about consigning.

Did you feel it was worth it?

Did you like being able to shop early and get good deals?

Should I only put out fall clothes since we're coming into the fall season or should I put out summer stuff too?

What were the positives/negatives?

Did you iron any clothing?

Any tips?

  1. my sister-in-law lives in conway and hasn't been able to stop talking about this sale. apparently stuff goes quick. i don't know details, but it seems like it might be worth it.

  2. Just cosigning doesn't let you shop the earliest. You have to also do a couple volunteer type things and if you're not there really in the first group or so I've felt the stuff wasn't really worth it BUT others may feel totally different and it took waaaay too much time to get everything ready.

  3. Amanda - I have done duck duck goose before, and it was a good experience. They had a bar code program you put on your computer, then priced your items and printed them out on business cards - it was a little time consuming, but I did it during nap time. I did not iron the clothes, but I did fluff them up in the dryer before putting them on hangers. Consigners were able to shop early, so that was a benefit. I made enough money to refresh the kids wardrobe. I think they only take items for the current season, but you may want to check. Good luck!

  4. Have you ever thought about doing it through a consignment shop instead of a sale? Yours Truly in Conway is one of my favorite places to shop for clothes, and there is a kids branch of the shop over by the Wal-Mart on Hwy 64 (the adult one is downtown), kind of over by McAlister's. At the adult branch of the store, you bring in what you want to consign and they look through it and price it, and you get 40% of what it sells for, and I assume the kids one is similar. I guess that's not a big percentage, and you don't have control over the pricing, but the only work you have to do is drop it off at the store, then go back later to see how much you've sold. Just maybe something to consider if you don't want to do all the work for the big sale!

  5. when i sold some bigger items it was worth it, but when it was mainly clothes it wasn't worth the trouble. now i just give the clothes to foster closet at our church and sell large items on craigslist.

  6. LOVE me some Duck Duck Goose. I've been doing it for two years and it is a lot of work but the deals you get are AMAZING. I learned from a good friend to consign our stuff that doesn't fit anymore and basically I buy new stuff for that season with that money and I'm always at either break even or still making a little money. Especially for baby items, it is SO worth it. Also at DDG they have a special shopping time for expectant mothers so you can shop early even if you aren't volunteering. Let me know if you want more info on DDG. :)

  7. ALso check out Rhea Lana. I love that they now have real time sales recognigtion (I am sure there is a better way to say that!) They also have the bar code program and once you get into a groove of preparing your items it seems to be pretty smooth sailing from there. I will be glad to give you more details of RL if you would like.
